The West Coast

June 5.

So.  How 'bout I just tell you the next day that I don't wear any rain gear?

I left Montesano this morning after breakfast at the Montesano's "Beehive" family diner.  It was suggested to me last night by a local guy I was talking bikes with at the laundromat.  With a full belly, I set out to the coast highway 101, with a target to get to central Oregon by the end of the days riding.

It didn't take long after leaving Montesano for the skies to start slowly improving.  In Washington, highway 101 is actually inland quite a bit and doesn't really get to the Pacific until you reach Oregon.

Last rest stop in Washington

So...they actually have to tell people not to clean
their fish in the public water fountain??

 Crossing the loooong bridge

I will agree with the Seattle HOG people I met a few days ago - the 101 is great.  It's a mix of up/down twisty semi-mountain roads at times, mixed with some seaside views.  You get some really nice views over the ocean descending some of these mountains.  The only downside seems to be the obvious attraction to the road.  There are a lot of RV's that you always seem to catch up to just before a series of twisties and no place to pass.  You need to keep reminding yourself that it's not a race and to just enjoy the ride - other places to pass will present themselves!

A nice biker couple I met at lunch - Alex and ... Mrs Alex(?)
from New Jersey riding their new Road Glide Ultra

Can you smell the salt air?

I made it to Waldport KOA and got another nice warm cabin.  (8 degrees overnight!)  I will be in California tomorrow so hopefully I will able to be back in the tent!

Not a bad view from the campground eh?

After dinner in town,  found a coin wash so I could try to clean up the Road King.  While my buddy Yoda wouldn't be impressed with this $2 cleaning, the bike's certainly more presentable than it has been over the last few days!

California tomorrow!
